Kiteboarding at Lagoon City on Lake Simcoe
Fun, thrilling and extreme! That’s what they said but I needed to see it to believe it. These are the three words I choose to describe the experience we had after spending some time with the ‘Kiters’.
It started with a new friend of mine inviting me out for an Extreme Sunday!? Thanks Bob for the invitation. I also wanted to say to Jeanette, Paul and all the others that showed up for the KiteCave day on the water in Lagoon City; it was totally awesome.
For those of you that did not make it out, I highly recommend checking this extreme sport out as a spectator or (better still) as a participant.
What is Kite boarding
The Kiteboard was invented by 2 brothers; Bruno & Dominique Legaignoux in the late 1970’s. It is a Kite with a kite control and slick surf board. The kite is controlled with a with a hand control allowing for precision maneuverability when mastered. Once the kite is deployed it requires wind to propel the surfer along the water on the board. The more wind, the more excited the surfers get. Surfers have developed many different styles like cruising, freestyle, jumps, riding waves, or wakestyle. The weather conditions dictate what is possible with your particular style. If there’s lots of wind you are in for an adrenalin rush, with no shortage of the propellant you need to flex your style.
