Hopefully you have already read the website community introduction because the next logical question is “how does it work”? In this article we will cover the administrative aspects of your online community. We will also detail the publishing interface that is commonly shared by publishers. Administration and publishing are at the core of creating content for your members and public website visitors. The goal of this document is to give you the Reader’s Digest version of managing and publishing your online community.
Levels of Administration
There are two levels of administration…
There can be more than one super administrator. The role of super admin is to regulate the community. With full admin power you can add, delete or modify any activity within the community. You are the lord of your world (domain).
When a member joins the community they can have full access to the community or specific areas only along with their own profile. Each member that wants a website goes through a quick sign up. After approval they are given access to their website and publishing tools with a URL, username and password. This micro-site can be free or paid with the parameters set by super administrators.
In the community there are two levels of users. Member administrators take care of their own website and profile using publishing tools provided and can interact with the community.
Interface1- Super Administrator
The Super admin interface allows you to add advertising or messaging that only logged in members will see. The software is updated globally from this level. This means members will never have to worry about hacking or security risks. The system administrator keeps the entire community healthy and secure.
Interface 2- Members Interface
The coolest part of this programming is all users utilize one interface located in the core file system. This means the load on web-servers will be minimal. Each member will have full access to the publishing system so they can easily add, modify and delete web pages. This includes adding images, video, audio, text and much more.
Now you should have a good idea on how easy it is for a super administrator to oversee the community. To begin with your web development firm of choice assumes the super admin role while ramping up your team to assume this role. Members are also administrators but only with their own websites. You (super admin) has the ultimate power to allow what content appears in your community. The same publishing interface is used by Super admin and admin. Millions of members can be publishing simultaneously without taxing the system due to its core publishing programming. It is simply a perfect balance of professional publishing functions, intuitive interface and user friendliness.
