Improving Video Effects Through Evolving Sensible Design
Purpose: To test the difference between entry level video and a more advanced version.
Summary: There are 2 videos below. The first one uses 1 image and a light vortex. The second one includes nicer blending effects, enhanced sounds and screen shakes.
The concept is set in the backyard of my home in Cumberland Beach. It’s a calm evening when suddenly the dark storm clouds move in like you’ve seen a million times before. The “Lake of Many Winds” (Couchiching) can be a nasty beast as I am sure you know.
Lake Couchiching Light Storm Part 1
First, the black sky moves in. Then forks of lightening begin to project from the sky of terror. After a few deep bursts of lightening a ferocious tornado is born. It appears from the dark sky instantly. The tornado’s energy is completely made of light.
This was the first take. With one a single photo we were able to create a one minute scene of absolute terror. It was not convincing enough. We wanted to scare you more. We went back to our effects guy and said “make this more scary & real”
Lake Couchiching Light Storm Part 2
The second version uses more video & audio effects. We improved the realistic qualities in the following areas:
1) Nicer blend from image to movie
2) More realistic sounds
3) The screen shakes (5 pixel wiggles)
Production of a creative video requires experience with knowledge in effects. This presentation was produced to show you the difference a few little effects make. It’s what is real and believable that is thought provoking, even if it’s just entertainment.
